PTA Positions

Key:
*Starred positions are easily filled at home and/or on a flexible time schedule.

Back to School Night- This person helps the different organizations set up booths at Back to School Night, gets refreshments for the evening, and helps with clean-up.
Book Fair- We have 2 book fairs during the school year that each last for a few days. These people are responsible for setting up, running, and closing the book fair.
*Box Tops- This person is in charge of collecting all box tops. They get the children excited about turning them in through incentives and competition.
*Campbell’s Label Fundraiser- This person collects labels from the students and sends them in for rewards for the school.
Character Counts- Each month parent volunteers from each classroom come to give the children lessons on different character traits. The person in this position helps find the parent volunteers, and makes sure they all know what the lesson of the month is.
*Community Incentives-  This person will identify businesses that offer incentives to students (such as free meal certificates), collect them, and bring them to the school.
*Directory- At the beginning of the school year, this person gets a disc from the office, compiles the names of all the students and parents at Grandview, and gets the pages ready to go to the printer.
*Donations- We like to be able to give away donated items to parents at Back To School Night, PTA meetings, and other events.  These parents will identify and collect donations.
Drink Pouch Brigade- This parent will encourage students to bring in their drink pouches so that we can turn them in for money.  They will also need to collect the pouches and mail them in.
Field Day- At the end of the school year, we have a day of games outside. These people are in charge of planning games, organizing the students, and finding parent volunteers to help run the games.
Gold Medal School Program-  This is a new program that we will be starting this year which promotes a healthy lifestyle with the students.  These parents will work with Mrs. Rich to create and conduct activities and events that align with the goals of this program.
Green Ribbon Week-  We will begin recognizing Green Ribbon Month during one week in September to promote pedestrian safety with our students and within our community.  These parents will create and implement such events.
Grocery Store Cards- Each year, our school gets money from Albertsons and Smiths every time a parent uses their “reward card”. This person sets up a booth at Back to School Night to get the parents to register their card numbers. The applications are also sent home to make sure all parents are given the opportunity.
*Macey’s Receipts- This person will remind students to bring in their receipts from Macey’s grocery store, add up and submit totals from the receipts each month, and work with the Macey’s representative.  We get a check every year based on how much money parents spend at the store.
*Newsletter (2 people)- These people are in charge of collecting, and typing announcements for our monthly newsletter, taking it to the printer, distributing it to the teachers, and emailing it to parents.
PTA Arts Grant- This person will work with Mrs. Rich and the teachers to identify a need for arts funding, and write the grant to apply.
*PTA Awards- This person will identify PTA awards for SVE to apply for, complete and submit applicable applications and paperwork by the deadlines.
PTA Bulletin Board- Post information at the school about PTA activities and events.
PTA Membership- This person runs a booth at Back to School Night to get parents to join PTA.
Red Ribbon Week- This is the week our children learn about the dangers of substance abuse, and take a pledge against drugs. These parents are in charge of planning 3 activities during the week (done during lunch recess) that help the children become more aware of the dangers of drugs.
Reflections- Each year our school participates in a national art, literature, music, and dance contest. These people are responsible for handing out contest rules and information, collecting projects, finding judges, and arranging an awards night.
Sally Foster- This position refers to the Sally Foster fundraiser in the fall. These people are responsible for handing out and collecting order forms, communicating with the Sally Foster rep., and distributing the orders when they come in.
Science Club-  We would like to start a before-school Science Club this year to mesh with our new magnet school theme: Environmental Studies.  We need several people to design the program, plan and implement activities, and coordinate with Mrs. Rich and the teachers.
Service Project- Once during the school year we like to have a “low key” service project to remind our children how important it is to serve others. This person is in charge of choosing a project and carrying it out. 
Sixth Grade Extravaganza-  These parents will work to assist the sixth grade students in all aspects of creating and performing an agreed upon event for their parents and peers.  
Spanish Club- This is a new club that we started last year. Many parents have expressed interest in language studies for their children and we need several parents to teach Spanish.  Lots of children attend and multiple instructors are necessary. 
*Spirit Days- Once a month, we like to have a “Spirit Day”. These days have a particular theme (crazy hair day, hat day, etc.). This person is in charge of coming up with themes, and sending home notices to remind children and parents of the day.
Summer Reading, Writing, and Math- Each year, our children go home with a reading plan, a journal, and a math packet. The children that return these packets- completed- receive different types of rewards. These people are responsible for organizing, distributing, and collecting the packets, and for checking the work for completion. They are also in charge of an assembly at the beginning of the school year to reward those who completed their packets. 
Teacher Appreciation- This is a week devoted to making sure our teachers know how much we value them. This is exciting for everyone. Our teachers receive special treats, and have their door decorated in a fun way.  We need at least one parent for every teacher.
Teacher Hospitality- This person arranges for meals to be brought in to our teachers during Parent/Teacher conferences.
T-shirts- These parents will create, order and distribute SVE t-shirts.
*Volunteer Hours Tracking- Responsible for collecting, adding up, and reporting the volunteer hours from the volunteer lists posted around the school each month.
*Web Hosting- This person hosts our PTA website and creates email addresses.
*Web Master- Posts monthly newsletter, committee updates, and other information on PTA website: www.shadowvalleypta.org 
Yearbook- These people are in charge of taking and collecting photos, communicating with the yearbook company, and preparing the pages for the printer.
